Due to World War II, strict material rationing was enforced to prioritize wartime production. As a result, clothing and workwear designs were heavily simplified, and the “S” in “S506XX” stands for “Simplified.”

For this model, Freewheelers replaced the original branded buttons with iron laurel buttons, reduced the number of front buttons to four, and removed the pocket flap details. While pocket flaps were not officially restricted on jackets, the 506 was categorized more as a denim blouse or shirt jacket, reflecting the utilitarian approach of the era.

The denim itself was also updated, featuring slightly thicker warp yarns dyed in a deep indigo shade designed to fade more slowly over time. This resulted in a darker and slightly heavier 14oz indigo denim fabric.

To preserve the integrity of the construction, thick stitching threads were used throughout, maintaining the high level of craftsmanship while ensuring durability and long-lasting wear.

A true tribute to wartime American denim, the S506XX captures the raw simplicity and rugged character of the era while carrying the exceptional craftsmanship Freewheelers is known for today. Built to age beautifully and fade with character, this is a piece that only gets better with wear.
