Freewheelers "A F A" Grunts Jacket

FREEWHEELERS

$575.00

The name “GRUNTS” comes from American military slang referring to infantry soldiers. The jacket is inspired by those worn by U.S. Marines during World War II, serving as the foundation for the design.

The backstory imagines the Motorcyclone Garage commissioning Union Special to create a customized version of this military jacket, based on vintage records and firsthand impressions from retired military veterans. This results in a garment with dual branding: Union Special × Motorcyclone.

Fabric & Construction

  • Made from yarn-dyed cotton herringbone twill.

  • The warp is rope-dyed black, while the weft is cheese-dyed black, giving the fabric depth and a rich, vintage feel.

  • Compared to typical herringbone fabrics, this one is noticeably thicker and more structured, with a crisp hand.

Design Features

  • The front body features a unique double-layered construction, where the inner layer forms a large concealed pocket.

  • Over this, patch pockets are placed—customized from the original:

    • The left pocket has a donut button closure and includes a pen slot.

    • The right pocket is a snap-button closure, creating an asymmetrical, utility-driven design.

  • The cuffs are also snap-buttoned, making them easy to adjust—perfect for practical use.

Fit & Style

  • The fit is relaxed, with wider sleeves for comfort and layering.

  • This is a custom model featuring distinctive decorative details:

    • A bowtie-shaped Motorcyclone patch on the chest.

    • On the back, you'll find a combination of embroidery and patches:

      • A patch resembling a peace sign, but with a monster motif embroidered into it.

      • Direct embroidery reading “AFA”, “Oakland,” and “California” applied to the fabric itself.a
